Names are now being mentioned of coaches who have been shortlisted to replace Gernot Rohr as Super Eagles' manager if his contract is not renewed by the NFF in 3 month's time.
Reports circulated in the local media stated that the German said he would not beg the NFF to renew his contract which has further fueled speculations around the deteriorating nature of the relationship between Rohr and his employers.
Nations Cup Qualifiers against Sierra Leone originally due to take place this month have been postponed because of the Coronavirus outbreak.
Rohr recently released a list of players to prosecute these matches which included returnees like Leon Balogun and Kelechi Iheanacho.
It is now speculated that the following candidates are being considered by powerful stakeholders to replace Gernot Rohr:
Emmanuel Amuneke: Misr Lel Makkasa coaching staff
Finidi George: no known coaching background
Vahid Halilhodžić: Serbian coach
Julian Nagelsmann: RB Leipzig coach
Antoine Kamboure: Toulouse coach
It must be stated that a lot of Super Eagles supporters would like the NFF to renew Rohr's contract due to the achievements of the Super Eagles in the past 4 years.
Under the German, Nigeria has improved dramatically in the Fifa rankings whilst the Super Eagles qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after missing 2 editions in a row.
A lot of exciting dual nationality players have now pledged allegiance to Nigeria under Rohr whilst many homegrown players are now playing in top leagues.
Rohr's fans fear that all these progress could be undone if the NFF fails to renew his contract which expires in 3 month's time.
