Afcon 2019 Player Watch: Moses Simon

Dashing winger Moses Simon, who was in fantastic form during the week in Levante's 2:1 shock win against mighty Barcelona, is a player whom much will be expected of should he make the Super Eagles squad to the 2019 African Cup of nations.

Having started his third cup match, the speedster showed reasons why he deserves to get a chance in the league, displaying an all-round performance which saw him also track back to help the defence on several occasions.

Playing in left wing-back type role, Moses displayed other qualities he brings to the national team and can play as wing-back if options up front crowds him out - with the likes of Onyekuru, Samuel Kalu, Samuel Chukwueze and Ahmed Musa providing stiff competition.

His contributions were valuable up-front with his mazy runs, purposeful shimmies and decent shots on goal. At the back, he made some telling clearances and interceptions to keep his side in the game - efforts that would delight the coach of Nigeria Gernot Rohr assuming he saw the match.

Moses had a game rating of 7.1, completed 75% of his passes, created one big chance and also completed four of his seven dribbles.

He also brought his defensive strength to the game as he won 9 duels, made one clearance, 3 interceptions and also completed two of his three tackles.

The former youth international will be hoping his performance was enough to keep his place for the visit of Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Super Eagles fans will be hoping he takes this kind of form to the Afcon tournament, if selected, in June.
