With the likes of Shehu Abdullahi and Henry Onyekuru currently injured, the news coming out of Spain was not what the Super Eagles head coach needed ahead of a crucial afcon qualifier in 4 weeks time.
Defender Kenneth Omeruo, who finally made his full debut for Leganes in their 1-1 draw with Valencia at the Estadio de Mestalla on Saturday evening, is now also injured.
Omeruo had to limp off the field in the 70th minute after picking up a knock, with his place taken by Raúl García.
The central defender's condition will be monitored by Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr, who is expected to announce his roster for next month's crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa as from the next two weeks.
Despite being on the pitch for just 70 minutes, Omeruo still gave a good account of himself, earning a game rating of 7.0, making 6 clearances and one interception. He also completed 95% of his passes and won 100% of his duels contested.
Omeruo was a non-playing substitute in the 4-0 hammering of Libya last weekend and was not included in the 18 against the Mediterranean Knights in Sfax four days ago. If he recovers on time, the ex-U-17 international is expected to be named in the squad to face South Africa in November
