Super Eagles fan favourite goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho conceded three goals while in action for RC Deportivo Fabril in Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Celta Vigo B in the Spanish third division football league.
Almost already guaranteed to be on the plane to Russia to represent Nigeria at the World Cup this June, many Super Eagles fans are already offering their opinion that this young, highly inexperienced yet promising 19 year old goalkeeper, who should still be developing his game at the under-23 levels, should be the number one goalkeeper for Nigeria at the tournament; this, at the expense of the more highly experienced, vast and versatile, yet slightly unlucky 31 year old Daniel Akpeyi who plays first division football.
Uzoho who was making his 22nd appearance for his club in Spain, has now conceded 17 goals, and kept 12 clean sheets for RC Deportivo Fabril.
Prior to conceding three goals in one match on Saturday, the most goals Uzoho had conceded in a game was two, against Girona in La Liga, Pontevedra, CF Fuenlabrada, Real Madrid Castilla, Valladolid B and CF Talavera in the third tier and the international friendly vs Serbia last month.
Fans and stakeholders of Nigerian football are waiting eagerly to see whether the coach of the national team - Gernot Rohr - will choose youth, exuberance, novelty and inexperience over maturity, application and experience in deciding who mans the post for Nigeria at the World Cup in the summer.
