World Cup 2002 Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Ike Shorunmu has been speaking ahead of Nigeria's friendly match against Serbia tomorrow advising against over-confidence on the back of Friday's morale boosting 1:0 victory against Poland.
He urges the team to focus on the task ahead and put the pleasant result against Poland behind then as dwelling too much on this can breed complacency and may lead to an embarrassing outcome against Serbia.
He enjoined the Super Eagles goalkeepers’ handlers to keep exposing all the keepers in camp to big match situations to build their confidence ahead of the World Cup.
Speaking to a national newspaper in Nigeria, Ike said: “The Super Eagles had a good game against Poland, but they have to forge ahead by reenacting the same performance against Serbia to put them in the right frame of mind before the World Cup.
I think Uzoho was jittery at the beginning of the Poland game, but later he gained his confidence. That shows that the goalkeepers in camp need more games to gain confidence."
